KC Animal Health Corridor expands
MWI Veterinary Supply, Inc. selects Kansas City for expansion
June 13, 2007 – KANSAS CITY – MWI Veterinary Supply, Inc. (NASDAQ – MWIV), headquartered in Meridian, Idaho, has selected the city of Edwardsville, Kansas within the KC Animal Health Corridor for its new Midwest distribution center.
“MWI is excited to have a presence in the Kansas City region.” said Jim Cleary, President and CEO, MWI Veterinary Supply, Inc. “We conducted a search for locations for the new facility and Kansas City made the most sense due to the logistical advantages and the concentration of animal health companies in the area.”
As one the largest animal health distributors, MWI’s announcement marks the largest national corporation to choose the Kansas City market for an expansion or relocation since the launch of the KC Animal Health Corridor last year.
“We are extremely pleased that MWI is establishing an operation in the region,” said Joerg Ohle, chairman, KC Animal Health Corridor advisory board and president and general manager of Bayer Corp.’s Animal Health Division, North America. “They are a significant national distributor who recognizes the potential that exists within the Corridor. Their presence further demonstrates the strength of the Corridor and significantly adds to the strong asset base that exists here.”
In the past year, the KC Animal Health Corridor successfully attracted two corporations and one animal health association to relocate or expand in the corridor including Synbiotics Corp., IdentiGEN and U.S. Animal Health Association.
MWI will lease a 105,000-square-foot distribution center in Edwardsville, Kan. The expansion will result in approximately 30 new jobs.
"We are thrilled with the decision MWI made to expand its operation in Kansas, contributing to the growing bioscience industry in this region and across the state," said Secretary David Kerr, Kansas Department of Commerce. "As the KC Animal Health Corridor continues to grow, other world-class companies will follow."
“MWI’s decision to locate a new operation in our region is a direct result of our KC Animal Health Corridor outreach efforts.” Bob Marcusse, president and CEO Kansas City Area Development Council. “This announcement demonstrates that our initiative is working.”
The Kansas City Area Development Council and KC SmartPort were proud to assist the Kansas Department of Commerce, Wyandotte Development, Inc., Grubb & Ellis/The Winbury Group, and the Board of Public Utilities, in bringing MWI to KC.
